Well-being management
Creating an Environment Where Both the Company and Its Employees Can Thrive.
In today’s era of 100-year lifespans, NKC Group has been promoting comfortable workplaces and health-focused management, wishing for each employee to remain physically and mentally healthy and enjoy a fulfilling life.
As a result, workplace environments have been improved to a comfortable standard, employee health data has shown positive trends, and the Group has been recognized annually as an Outstanding Organization of KENKO Investment for Health (White 500) endorsed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Building on these initiatives, in April 2025, NKC Group will transition to well-being management, incorporating changes in employee needs, not only physical and mental health but also desires for meaningful and fulfilling work, societal changes such as diversified work styles and evolving values, and corporate growth strategies like enhanced employee engagement and productivity. This approach aims to pursue the well-being of each employee.
NKC Well-Being Management Declaration
Through well-being management, NKC Group aims to create a synergistic effect between employee happiness and the company’s transformation and growth.
(Message from the President to employees)
Amid societal changes where many people feel that economic wealth alone cannot bring happiness, Japan has seen an increase in the number of centenarians, ushering in an era of longer lifespans.
To all employees who have chosen to work at our company from among countless others, we hope that you will lead a healthy and fulfilling life not only during your tenure but throughout the rest of your days.
With this sentiment, the Company has promoted various initiatives under the banners of health-focused management and creating comfortable workplaces. Building on these efforts, we will now focus more directly on employee well-being and further accelerate the development of systems and environments to support it. We believe that when you genuinely feel happiness in working at our company, your creativity, individuality, and passion will drive the transformation and growth of the Company.
Vision for Well-being Management

Company Basic Policy
Providing a comfortable and attractive environment
We provide a safe, secure, and comfortable work environment for employees and strive to foster a corporate culture in which all generations can communicate smoothly. In addition, we promote the expansion of diverse and flexible work styles that meet the needs of our employees.
Supporting Autonomous Health Promotion Activities
We promote a well-rounded work–life balance to help employees maintain the three essential elements of health (rest, nutrition, and exercise) in proper balance.
Employee Awareness and Behavior
Health as the foundation for a fulfilling life
Health is not only an individual asset but also a factor that contributes to the productivity of society. For this reason, employees should be mindful of taking planned vacations, improving their diet, and participating in health-related events organized by the company.
Maintaining lifelong health
To remain healthy throughout life, each individual should raise their awareness of both mental and physical health and actively engage in health-promoting activities.
NKC Group Health Management Promotion Framework
The NKC Group has established the NKC Group Health Management Promotion Framework to strengthen and promote health management across the entire Group.

NKC Group Health Management Strategy Map
The NKC Group has established the NKC Group Health Management Strategy Map to set goals and indicators aimed at addressing management issues related to health and to promote concrete initiatives for maintaining and improving employee health.
Health Management Indicators
Investment in employee health not only enhances individual well-being but also directly contributes to increased productivity and organizational vitality, making it a highly important management issue.
To extend healthy life expectancy, it is essential to reduce the prevalence of lifestyle-related disease risks.
Key indicators for achieving this include the regular health checkup rate, smoking rate, and high-stress ratio.
Improving the rate of regular health checkups helps enable early detection and treatment of illnesses.
Reducing the smoking rate, one of the main causes of lifestyle-related diseases, and the proportion of employees experiencing high stress directly lowers health risks.
Improvement in these indicators is the key to achieving the goal of extending healthy life expectancy.
| Benchmark year 2020 |
2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 (Target) |
|
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Regular health checkup rate | 100.0% | 100.0% | 100.0% | 100.0% | 100.0% | 100.0% |
| Smoking rate | 21.6% | 20.5% | 20.4% | 19.0% | 20% | 18.5% |
| High-stress ratio | 13.0% | 12.7% | 12.1% | 14.3% | 11.9% | 10.9% |
• Numerical improvement activities are also discussed by the Health and Safety Committee and other relevant bodies.
Efforts to extend healthy life expectancy (health investment initiatives) help improve employees’ physical and mental condition.
As a result:
Ⓐ On the positive side, work engagement increases, and
Ⓑ On the negative side, presenteeism decreases.
(2024: 2.4 points ⇒ 2025: 2.1 points)
(2024: 90.8% ⇒ 2025: 91.0%)
The NKC Group conducts an annual stress check consisting of more than 80 items, exceeding legal requirements, to gain a deeper understanding of the health status of employees and the organization. This check includes indicators such as work engagement (motivation) and presenteeism (reduced productivity), making it more than just a stress measurement. It serves as an organizational diagnosis tool for multidimensional analysis and visualization of issues faced by the workplace and organization.
• Stress check implementation rate: 2024 – 93.1% (508 eligible, 473 tested) ⇒ 2025 – 94.3% (507 eligible, 478 tested)
Wellness PDSA Program
Why does the Company support employees in maintaining their health?
On April 1, 2021, President Nakanishi issued the NKC Group Health Declaration, stating:
“As we enter an era of centenarians, it becomes increasingly important to lead a fulfilling life in both mind and body. The NKC Group declares its commitment to actively creating a safe, secure, and comfortable environment where every employee can fully demonstrate their individuality and abilities and work with a sense of purpose.” President Nakanishi has long expressed his concern for employees’ health even after retirement, hoping that employees will not spend their final days bedridden, but instead remain healthy enough to walk on their own, that they will extend not only their lifespan but also their healthy lifespan.
With that aspiration, the Wellness PDSA Program was introduced as a key health initiative within the NKC Group’s health promotion efforts.
What is the wellness PDSA program?
It is a health support program designed to help participants build lasting wellness habits by systematically incorporating the three essential elements of health: rest, nutrition, and exercise. Dedicated registered dietitians and personal trainers from Realna Inc., the company commissioned to operate the program, analyze each participant’s current diet, exercise habits, body composition, and lifestyle. Based on this analysis, they create a personalized plan aimed at improving both diet and physical activity. By completing small, low-barrier health tasks, participants work toward measurable improvement and the development of sustainable health habits. The program also takes into account preexisting conditions, allergies, and individual food preferences, allowing participants to continue the program comfortably every day. Through this approach, each participant takes an active role in the PDSA (Plan–Do–Study–Act) cycle, making it possible to establish a routine of sustainable wellness improvement.

What exactly does the program involve?
Each participant is provided with a personalized program. You can choose which activities to focus on from within your individual plan, allowing you to engage at your own pace and without strain.

Wellness PDSA program: Steps to get started

Results So Far
Approximately 1,200 NKC Group employees have participated and achieved results.

Participant feedback
“I hoped to improve my lower back pain, so I made sure to stretch every day, and I feel like my body has become more flexible. As for my diet, I became more aware of the calories in snacks, so I plan to keep that up.”
“I mostly work from home and only go to the office about four times a month. This program gave me a good reason to start exercising. I also realized that my arms are weak. I used to skip breakfast when working from home, but now I plan to eat and be mindful of chewing. I wanted to lose 2.3 kg, but I didn’t quite reach that goal.”
“This was my first time participating. The program was easy to understand and helped me stay consistent. Since I started working at the factory in May, my commute got shorter, and I had more time to devote to the program. I was motivated by the seriousness of those around me.”
“I wasn’t able to reach my goal of increasing my basal metabolism, but by loosening my shoulder blades, I was able to relieve my stiff shoulders. The program wasn’t difficult, so I’d like to keep doing it whenever I can find the time.”
“This time I was able to practice the diet and exercise parts better than before. I supplemented nutrients I tend to lack with nutritional drinks and did stretching exercises with my child. I’m glad I joined because these are things I wouldn’t have done unless I consciously made the effort.”
“I was getting ready for my wedding, so my fiancée and I walked for an hour after dinner, and we also cut down on rice to save money; both of which I think helped me get results.”。
