Welfare for children and people with disabilities
Create a Place That Connects People and Communities, Where Everyone Can Spend Time Energetically.
Since our founding in 1924, the NKC Group has engaged in various social contribution activities, with a particular focus on welfare for children and people with disabilities.
In 2022, to further strengthen our ties with the local community, we opened Nakaniwa Café within the Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Arcade in Kita Ward, Osaka City. During the day, it operates as a welfare café employing people with disabilities, while on Wednesday evenings it serves as a children’s cafeteria, providing new value and opportunities for children. In addition, NKC actively promotes initiatives that support people, such as the continued operation of the Nakanishi Scholarship Foundation, which provides educational assistance.
Welfare Café
A place where everyone can work by making the most of their individuality.

Nakaniwa Welfare Café is a welfare café where people with disabilities work. In partnership with the NPO Shinseikai, NKC supports employment for people with disabilities by welcoming four to five individuals from a support facility on a rotating basis. Through their work, each person has more opportunities to experience what they can do and what they have accomplished, helping to build a future where everyone can work in a way that reflects their unique individuality.

Children’s Cafeteria
A place where children always have someone to be with.

NKC’s children’s cafeteria began in 2018 and has since been providing free meals to children.
In 2022, the activities moved to Nakaniwa Welfare Café, further expanding their scope. The program now includes workshops that introduce children to different cultures and activities that parents and children can join together. By offering hands-on experiences and working in collaboration with the local community, NKC is creating an environment where children and the community can grow together.
Various Events Are Held at Nakaniwa Welfare Café, a Local Community Hub.
Osaka Metropolitan University + NKC
Nakaniwa Activity Idea Presentation
NKC has strengthened its collaboration with Osaka Metropolitan University, and as part of this effort, jointly held the Nakaniwa Activity Idea Presentation with the university’s Ninomiya Seminar in the School of Business. On the day of the event, in addition to the presenting students, many adults who are seriously committed to revitalizing the Osaka area, including the former mayor of Kita Ward and representatives from the media and financial sectors, were in attendance. Based on the students’ forward-looking ideas, lively discussions took place. Following the presentation, some student ideas developed into a dance event and a hands-on store experience. Ideas generated at the presentation are steadily being put into practice within the children’s cafeteria program.

Osaka Metropolitan University + Nakaniwa Children’s Cafeteria
At the children’s cafeteria, various seasonal events are held with the goal of providing new experiential value. During the summer festival, with the support of students from Osaka Metropolitan University, children can participate in a hands-on store experience that teaches the basics of business through play. At Christmas, mini-games are organized, and children receive sweets and cute prizes. Other events, such as dance programs, are also held, creating opportunities for children to naturally deepen their learning while having fun.

Popular picture book author Tomonori Taniguchi + Nakaniwa Children’s Cafeteria
As part of efforts to nurture children’s creativity and imagination, the children’s cafeteria held a live painting event. Picture book author Tomonori Taniguchi was invited to read his books and create live paintings based on children’s requests.
In addition, Taniguchi created a mural in the kids’ space on the second floor of Nakaniwa Café. The mural, featuring a large dandelion (the café’s symbol) creates a warm environment where children feel as if they have stepped into the world of a story.

Nakanishi Scholarship Foundation
Young people are the future. Supporting an environment where they can learn with confidence.
The Nakanishi Scholarship Foundation was established in 1971 by Yoshio Nakanishi, the second president of Nakanishi Metal Works Co., Ltd. For over half a century, it has been engaged in scholarship initiatives to support young people who will drive the future of industrial science and technology, ensuring they can focus on their studies with peace of mind.
By June 2024, scholarships had been awarded to approximately 5,100 students facing financial challenges, and research grants have been actively provided to institutions in industrial science and technology. To date, the total support provided has reached 1.3 billion yen.
